About
My name is Tina Smith and I am a homeschooling mom of 2 (daughter, born 2000 and son, born 2005) and webmama of HomeschoolPodcasts.com as well as a few other sites, including:
And you can find me on Facebook and Twitter. Eventually I’ll have a Facebook page and Twitter account for HomeschoolPodcasts as well. For now, I’m focusing on building up this website.
I created this site as a sister site for HomeschoolRealm, a site I created as a place to store and share all the fabulous info I find on the net and in real life that can be used to help educate my children.
I recently got really into listening to podcasts (at the writing of this, in 2010), particularly ones that are on homeschool related topics. I love that I can download them to my iPhone (previously I used a simple mp3 player, which worked great as well!) and listen to interesting shows while I wash dishes and work around the house or go on my morning walks.
I quickly discovered that though it appeared that iTunes had a lot of podcasts on homeschooling (searching the word “homeschool” turned up what looked like a lot)…there were a lot that were dead accounts or not actually related, and some that were highly religious (a big turnoff to me, as I am not Christian) and some that just weren’t any good. I also noticed that there were a lot of shows that stopped producing new episodes a couple years back. I found very few that were current.
So I decided I would start this website to compile all the actual good quality homeschool podcasts that were secular or what I call “tolerably religious” (lightly religious). And to also attempt to get more people out there to produce more quality homeschool shows!
You will only find content on this site that I personally find of good quality. So, by my standards, these are the shows that are worth taking the time to listen to. Since our time is very limited as homeschoolers…I thought it might help to have a place to help weed through all the options out there.
As I am unaware of the netiquette regarding online podcasts, I am attempting to obtain permission to post all podcasts here. So, unless otherwise noted, anything you find on this site has received permission from the creator of the show to post here.
If you are a homeschool podcaster or know of one, please feel free to submit your podcast for review by emailing me at podcasts(at)homeschoolpodcasts(dot)com. (Obviously, replace with the real symbols…I do this to keep the spambots from harvesting my email.)
